It’s Not Too Late To Start Working On Your Summer Body

We’ve all heard the saying ‘summer bodies are made in winter’. Of course, we all know it’s better if you maintain your weight year-round.
Feeling fit feels good whether it’s raining, snowing or sunny. But let’s face it: a lot of us look at the summer months as a milestone, or marker in the future, and use it as a springboard for motivation, for a reason to get started and stick at a program, with a view to those golden months in the middle of the year, when we’ll be outside, enjoying the weather, catching up with friends and maybe even showing a little more skin. So if it’s the middle of June, is it too late to lose weight for this summer?

The good news is you still have time to get in shape before your beach vacation.
Here is how:

Step 1: Stop Drinking

If you want a beach body, this is where it starts. Booze hijacks your fat burning and has no place in this process. Think about it like being pregnant, only for six weeks instead of nine months. Once this process is over, you’ll get to enjoy a few Mai Tais on your vacation.

Step 2: Clean Up Your Diet

Here are three rules you need to remember in order to get there fast:

  1. Fitness is 85% diet and 15% exercise.
  2. When it comes to your diet, garbage in = garbage out.
  3. Your body is too smart for you to cut corners with your fat loss.

Step 3: Give MAX Effort in the Gym

During these six weeks, you can’t cheat yourself at all in the gym. You must lift to the point of failure on every set and make sure you’re tracking your lifts.

Step 4: Add Strategic Cardio

The key is successfully integrating cardio into your lifting schedule. There are two times during the day when your body is primed for fat burning:

  1. After a 12-16 hour fast when all your body has left to burn is body fat. On a rest day, if you mix in some cardio after a fast, you’re guaranteed to burn straight body fat.
  2. After a heavy lift when your fuel tank is empty. If you throw in 30 minutes of HIIT cardio after you lift, it’ll melt your body fat since it’s the only available energy source.

Step 5: Quit While You’re Ahead

Remember: these strategies are temporary quick fixes. When it comes to long-term fitness, slow and steady always wins the race. But if you need a beach bod before the summer sun fades away, give this process a shot.
